Northcote College of Education
The Training College, as it was first known, was established in 1939 on a temporary campus on Hospital Road. It was later moved to the Bonham Road campus in 1941, and was named the Northcote Training college after the then Governor, Sir Geoffrey Northcote, It was subsequently re-titled the Northcote College of Education in 1967.
The Northcote college of Education was divided into a Chinese and an English division. Students had to successfully complete two block practices in order to graduate, and many of them taught in government schools after graduation. In the early years of the ‘Northcote College’, drama was one of the most popular extra-curricular activities. Through acting, students could enhance the use of their voice and facial expressions, which was beneficial to their future teaching careers.
