Hong Kong School Certificate Examination was begun by The Education Department in 1946. In 1952, the Government first conducted Hong Kong Chinese School Certificate Examination (HKCSCE) for students in Chinese secondary schools. This examination is different from Hong Kong School Certificate Examination. In 1961, Hong Kong School Certificate Examination was renamed Hong Kong English School Certificate Examination (HKESCE). In 1974, Hong Kong Chinese School Certificate Examination and Hong Kong English School Certificate Examination were merged into Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE). With the three-year senior secondary education system implemented at Secondary Four in September 2009, Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination will be changed to Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSE) in 2012. This admission card must be placed on the desk in front of candidate throughout the examination. The notice to candidates is printed on the back of the admission card.
