Encyclopedic Dictionary of Education was first published by the Commercial Press of Shanghai in 1930, and it condensed version was issued in 1933. This book began to be compiled in 1922 by educators such as Tang Yue, Zhu Jingnong and Gao Juefu, etc. Its objective was to introduce various types of educational theories as well as to sort out different kinds of academic terms, which enables to standardize the explanation and meaning of these terms. It mainly presents the key points of various kinds of educational ordinances in China, compendiums of western educational masterpieces, introductions of both Chinese and western educational institutions and organizations as well as biographies of educators. Encyclopedic Dictionary of Education was a large-scale reference book for education which reflected the development of educational policies and theories of 1930s in both China and overseas.
